Photovoltaics: Light Energy Harvesting with Plasmonic Nanoparticle Networks

Abstract

Exciting electrons with light in metallic nanoparticle networks hollow for a strong energy absorption in the visible spectrum. In this chapter, we describe the basic physical mechanisms that govern light–matter interactions in these media. We demonstrate that the collective effects can lead to a considerable enhancement and broadening of absorption spectrum opening for a new generation of artificial absorbers.
