Erbium-doped microspherical lasers at 1.56 µm

Abstract

Experimental results on the realisation and spectral characterisation of Er-ZBLAN microspherical lasers at 1.56 µm are presented. The laser effect is obtained using the properties of whispering gallery modes and pumping at 1.48 /µm. Multimode operation and a laser threshold as low as 600 µW have been observed.
