Electro-optic properties of SrxBa1-xNb2O6 (SBN :x) thin films

Abstract : Our objective is to prepare strontium barium niobate SrxBa1-xNb2O6 (SBN:x) thin films with electro-optic properties inherited from those of the crystalline bulk material, to be used as low voltage electro-optic waveguides. We have obtained single phase epitaxial (001) SBN thin films on platinum coated MgO substrates by using a RF magnetron sputtering technique. These films exhibit a high dielectric non linearity, ferroelectric and electro-optic properties. We present here the method we have developed to characterize the electro-optic properties of the films and the results obtained.
