Enhancing Safety and Security at Level Crossings of "FERROMOBILES"

Résumé

Content Summary : An innovative project called "Ferromobile "1 offers a multimodal, electrically-powered vehicle with an adapted system enabling it to travel on both rail and road, thanks to a rail-road technology developed by the Société d'Ingénierie, de Construction et d'Exploitation de la Ferromobile (SICEF) and its industrial partners. This project offers a high-quality, flexible service accessible to all in rural areas and small towns. The question is how to ensure the safety of Ferromobile passengers and road users at level crossings (LCs)? Level crossings: are places where the road crosses at the same level as the railway. They are a particularly vulnerable link in the railway infrastructure. Appropriate safety measures must therefore be put in place to ensure safety and avoid collisions. The poster talk about : - Objectives of the ”Ferromobile” project. - Two types of level crossings: level crossings in small towns and level crossings in the countryside which have low traffic levels and sometimes private. - Requirements: depending on the level of technology considered: * For level crossings in the countryside: - Use of a manual button with a light (for feedback when the message is received by the "Ferrimobile") on both sides of the crossing. - For data transmission between the level crossing in the countryside and the "Ferromobile", the use of the short-range telecoms « WAVE » is proposed. This shortrange radio communication network is compatible with the stopping distance in the event of emergency braking (vehicle/animals on the tracks). * For level crossings in small towns: -Long-range telecoms support technologies, camera to measure upstream flow (flow priority level) + camera to monitor crossroads (dangerous situations). - "Platooning" concept: this concept can be used to manage the speed of the peloton (a series of "Ferromobiles" moving one behind the other on the same route) and minimize interaction with road traffic at stop and start points. - Encryption process: Global security assumptions are preserved through the use of an encrypted telecommunication medium, where encryption is used to protect the security installation from a security point of view.
